East Garrison Dog Park sits on a sprawling parcel in Marina with open sightlines across flat terrain—no cramped urban lot, just space. The main enclosure runs large and mostly grass, with a secondary small-dog area sectioned off for dogs under 25 pounds. Both sections have shade structures, which matters on the Monterey Peninsula where coastal sun can feel stronger than you’d expect for the latitude. The park draws steady use from the nearby residential neighborhoods, so weekday mornings tend quieter than weekend afternoons.
Dogs are allowed off-leash throughout both fenced areas. There’s a water station for dogs, though bringing your own bowl is smart since the ground-level setup can get crowded during peak hours. The small-dog section gives toy breeds and senior dogs their own space without interference from larger animals. Handlers stay responsible for their own dogs’ behavior—typical dog-park rules apply. No fees or permits required.
The park occupies part of the East Garrison complex near Ord Avenue, a few miles inland from downtown Marina and the coast. Terrain is level and easy to navigate; the grass surface drains reasonably well even after rain, though winter can turn sections soft. Parking is available on-site. Hours run dawn to dusk year-round. The exposure cuts both ways—wide open means good air circulation on warm days, but there’s little protection if weather turns. Most regulars come with a ball or toy since the open layout lets dogs run full-speed without obstacles. Bring water in summer months; the park can feel warm by mid-afternoon even when coastal Marina proper feels cool.
