Frey Vineyards spreads across 47 acres in Mendocino County’s Redwood Valley, inland and about 30 minutes north of Ukiah. The property operates as working vineyard land with a modest tasting room and open-air patio where you can see the vines you’re tasting from. The operation runs biodynamic and certified organic, meaning minimal chemicals and intention-driven land management. The outdoor seating works well for casual afternoons, and tastings lean toward education without pretense—you’ll taste through current releases typically including Cabernet, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, and white varietals. Food pairings from their small kitchen are available, usually cheese boards and simple plates.
Dogs are welcome on the tasting patio and throughout the vineyard grounds, though they cannot enter the tasting room itself. There is no fee for bringing your dog, and water is available. The property has resident dogs usually around, so introductions happen naturally if your dog is social. Leashes are necessary given the open property and working vineyard. Footing on unpaved paths is uneven but gentle, so watch your step.
Summer afternoons get warm, so early visits or later in the day work better for dog comfort. The winery is open daily, but hours shift seasonally—check their website before heading out.
