The Half Moon Bay Coastside Dog Park is a popular spot on the San Mateo County coast for your dog to stretch their legs, socialize with other dogs, and burn off some energy in a safe, fully fenced environment. Located at 400 Wavecrest Road in Half Moon Bay, this community dog park has been a gathering place for local dog owners and visiting travelers alike for years.
The fenced off-leash area measures approximately 225 by 75 feet and is covered with wood chips, providing a comfortable surface for dogs to run and play. The park is equipped with picnic tables and chairs where you can relax and watch the action, plus a small covered building that offers protection against the coastal fog and occasional rain that Half Moon Bay is known for. It is a great place to meet other dog owners and watch your dog play without getting tangled around a leash.
Channel your dog’s energy in a fun and safe way. Watch them run and romp in a secure environment where they cannot endanger themselves or others. The park attracts a friendly mix of regulars and visitors, and dogs of all sizes and breeds are welcome. Many dog owners find it is the perfect way to start or end a day of exploring the Half Moon Bay coastline, giving their dogs a chance to play freely before heading to the beach or a nearby dog-friendly restaurant.
The park is open from sunrise to sunset daily, and there is no admission fee. Because it is a community-maintained park, visitors are asked to clean up after their dogs and help keep the space enjoyable for everyone. Water bowls are sometimes available, but it is always a good idea to bring your own water and a portable bowl, especially on warmer days. The relaxed, coastal vibe of the park makes it easy to lose track of time while your dog makes new friends.
Half Moon Bay itself is a wonderfully dog-friendly destination, with numerous trails, beaches, and restaurants that welcome dogs. After a visit to the dog park, consider walking your pup along the nearby Wavecrest Trail or heading into downtown Half Moon Bay for a bite to eat at one of the many pet-friendly patios along Main Street.
Directions: Wavecrest Road is two miles south of Highway 92 on Highway 1. Turn right onto Wavecrest at “Cameron’s Inn & Restaurant.” Heading towards the beach, take the first right turn onto a dirt road. At the end of the road, the dog park awaits. If you reach Smithfield Ball Park, you have gone too far!
