Heisler Park sits high on the bluffs along Cliff Drive in Laguna Beach, stretching from Aster Street down to Diver’s Cove. The views of the Pacific are genuinely stunning, and the walking trails are well-maintained enough that you won’t be wrestling your dog through overgrown brush. Leashed dogs are welcome here, and the park gives you plenty of space to explore without feeling crowded even on weekends.
The layout works well for a dog outing. There are grassy areas where you can spread out for a picnic, picnic tables if you want to sit down properly, and barbecues if you’re planning something more substantial. The paths meander along the ocean side, so you get that constant view of water and waves—the sound of it carries through the whole park. On a clear day, the breeze coming off the water is refreshing rather than harsh.
Tide pools at the marine refuge area are interesting to see, though your dog will be more fascinated by the smells than the starfish. The lawn bowling greens add an odd touch—you might see people actually playing while you’re walking by, which is a distinctly Laguna Beach thing. Restroom facilities are available, which matters if you’re spending a few hours here.
The neighborhood around the park is worth knowing about. You’re walking distance from galleries, shops, and cafes along the village streets, though parking can be tight during peak season. If your dog gets tired of walking, there’s enough lawn space to just sit and let them rest while you watch the ocean. Bring water—there’s shade under some trees, but the bluffs don’t have as much coverage as a full forest would. The tide pools are worth a look if you go when the tide is cooperating, though honestly the main draw is just the clean ocean air and the chance to let your dog walk without feeling rushed.
