The JGW RV Park spreads across 32 acres of native black oak forest right along the Sacramento River, and it’s a genuinely pleasant spot to park your rig for a night or a few days. The whole setting has that natural, unpretentious feel you want when traveling with your dog—grassy areas for walking, river access, and plenty of shade from the oaks. You can fish for steelhead, trout, and salmon if that’s your thing, or just set up a camp chair and watch the wildlife while your dog explores the grounds at their own pace. There’s also horseshoes if you want to keep yourself entertained while someone watches the campfire.

What makes this location particularly useful for road trippers is its proximity to everything worth seeing in Northern California. Within an hour’s drive, you’ve got lakes, caves like the nearby redding/”>Shasta Caverns, waterfalls, several state and national parks, museums, and even the remnants of gold rush era ruins scattered around the region. Redding itself sits right on I-5, making JGW a logical stop whether you’re heading north toward the Oregon border or south toward Sacramento and beyond.

The park works well as either a home base if you’re spending a few days exploring the area, or as a convenient overnight break on a longer drive. The river location means you get some relief from the inland heat in summer, and the tree coverage is actually substantial. Your dog will appreciate having enough space to move around, and you won’t feel cramped even if the park fills up.

Getting there is straightforward from either direction on I-5: take the Knighton Road exit and head south on Riverland Drive for about two miles. The park is right on the river, so you can’t really miss it once you’re on the right road.
