The Lakefront Path at Twin Lakes in Mammoth Lakes winds right along the water’s edge, giving you that constant view of the lake that makes the walk feel special. This short 0.3-mile path is exactly what you want when you need a gentle outing but don’t have much time—it’s the kind of trail where you can actually relax instead of constantly watching your footing.

The path connects to the larger Lakes Basin Path at the Twin Lakes Picnic Area, so you can extend things if you’re feeling it. The picnic area itself is a logical spot to start, and from there the Lakefront Path hugs the shoreline as it heads toward Horseshoe Lake. You’ll have the surrounding mountains visible the whole time, with plenty of green growth around the water. It’s genuinely peaceful, not crowded even on decent weather days.

Your dog can come along on leash, and the maintained trail surface makes it easy for them to walk without struggling. The path is wide enough that you’re not constantly dodging other hikers, and because it’s fairly short, it works well if your dog isn’t up for a big day or if you’ve got limited daylight.

The elevation here means the weather can change fast—come prepared with layers even if it looks nice when you arrive. The lake itself stays cold year-round, so while the views are beautiful, you won’t be tempted for a swim. If you want to explore more after finishing the Lakefront Path, heading toward Horseshoe Lake gives you other options without backtracking immediately. Parking at the Twin Lakes Picnic Area fills up on weekends, so an early start helps you secure a spot.
