The dog park sits at the corner of College Parkway and Old Mammoth Road, adjacent to the Mammoth Lakes Community Center, where high desert pines provide genuine shade—something valuable at 8,000 feet when afternoon sun intensifies. Decomposed granite with grass patches covers the ground and drains quickly, though summer can bring dust. The terrain around Mammoth is rocky and steep, making this fenced area a practical spot for dogs to run hard on relatively flat ground. The layout is visible from the parking area, helping you decide whether to stay twenty minutes or an hour.
The park splits into two fenced sections: a larger area for dogs over 25 pounds and a smaller enclosure for dogs under 25 pounds. Dogs are allowed off-leash throughout both areas. Water bowls are available in each section, though bringing your own bottle is wise during peak times. The park operates during daylight hours year-round, with winter access depending on snow removal—call ahead if visiting between November and March.
Summer temperatures stay mild, usually in the 70s, but mornings and evenings require a light layer, and afternoon thunderstorms roll through regularly. Peak usage occurs late afternoon and early evening, especially on weekends when locals drive up from the valley. If you’re staying in town, the park is less than a mile from most lodging on Main Street. The separation of dog sizes means smaller dogs have their own safe area away from larger breeds.
