Memorial Park’s small dog area sits in the southeast corner of the larger park, a modest fenced enclosure where dogs under 25 pounds get their own space away from the big dogs. The ground is a mix of grass and decomposed granite that drains reasonably well after rain, so your dog’s paws won’t stay muddy long. A few shade trees provide relief on hot afternoons, though the park sits in full sun for much of the day—arrive early or after 4 p.m. if heat’s a concern.
The small dog section has a single water fountain, and you’ll want to bring a collapsible bowl since dogs drink directly from it. The fencing is secure and the gate closes properly, which matters when you’re managing a small or nervous dog around larger animals in the adjacent area. The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset year-round, so winter visits require an earlier arrival.
Mornings before 10 a.m. tend to be quieter, while late afternoon brings a steady crowd of regulars. El Segundo Boulevard runs alongside the park, and while traffic noise is audible, it doesn’t dominate the space. Memorial Park itself spans several acres with playgrounds, picnic areas, and open grass fields, so the small dog park draws a steady stream of foot traffic from families using the wider grounds. The nearest paid parking is in the main lot off West El Segundo Boulevard, with street parking available along the boulevard itself on less crowded days. Bring waste bags—the park provides some dispensers, but they run out by midday.
