Miners Ravine Trail in Granite Bay runs nearly 9 miles round trip as a paved out-and-back route that follows Dry Creek through the Roseville area. The trail is straightforward and well-maintained, making it accessible for dogs of varying fitness levels and ages. You’ll walk parallel to the creek for most of the distance, which means there are natural water sources along the way—handy for giving your dog a drink, though you might want to bring water anyway since the creek runs through populated areas upstream.
The best part about this trail is that it’s genuinely flat and easy to navigate. There’s no confusing junctions or sudden elevation changes to worry about. In spring, you’ll see wildflowers dotting the landscape, and the creek itself adds visual interest even when flowers aren’t blooming. The paved surface means it’s comfortable for paw pads and works well for dogs who might have joint issues or prefer not to walk on dirt or rocky terrain.
Since this is a popular multi-use trail, you’ll encounter other people and dogs regularly. Most folks are courteous, but you’ll want to keep your dog on a leash and be prepared for the occasional jogger or cyclist passing by. The trail tends to be busier on weekends, so if you prefer a quieter experience, weekday mornings are your best bet.
Parking is available at the trailhead in Granite Bay. The out-and-back format means you can walk as much or as little as you want—you don’t have to commit to the full 9 miles. Many people do just 3 or 4 miles and turn around, which works perfectly fine for an afternoon outing. The trail is open year-round, though it can get hot and exposed in summer since there isn’t much shade along Dry Creek.
