Mono Sierra Lodge sits at nearly 8,000 feet elevation in the heart of Mammoth Lakes, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and overlooking Crowley Lake. The lodge welcomes well-behaved dogs year-round, which means you can actually bring your dog along to experience this high-country landscape instead of leaving them behind.

Spring and summer open up serious fishing opportunities in the lakes and streams around here. You can cast a line with your dog hanging out on the bank, listening to the water and the wind through the pines. The hiking and backpacking trails in the area are genuinely dog-friendly—many wind through relatively open terrain where you won’t feel rushed or confined. If you want to go deeper into the wilderness, the lodge arranges guided pack trips into the John Muir Wilderness and Inyo National Forest, which gives you access to some truly remote country that most people never see.

Autumn brings hunters to the region, and the wildlife presence reflects the quality of the landscape. Winter transforms the area completely—Mammoth Mountain is only about fifteen minutes away, so if you’re into skiing, you’ve got easy access. Cross-country skiing and snowmobiling right around the lodge are solid options if your dog is up for cold-weather adventures.

The lodge itself functions as a genuine base camp rather than a luxe resort. You’re staying in a mountain lodge, which means the focus is on the landscape and activities, not on being pampered. This works well for dogs because the whole operation is built around people who want to be outside doing things, not lounging around common areas.

The elevation takes some adjustment—if you and your dog are coming from sea level, you’ll both feel it the first day or so. Plan easier activities for your arrival day and let yourselves acclimate. Bring plenty of water for your dog, especially at this altitude. Contact the lodge directly about their current pet policy and any specific guidelines they have for dogs on the property.
