Moorpark Dog Park

15400 Campus Park Dr, Moorpark, California

The main loop at Moorpark Dog Park runs through open grassland with scattered oak and sycamore trees that offer real relief on hot afternoons—the canopy isn’t dense, but the shade patches are strategically placed near the central bench areas. The park sits at about 700 feet elevation with gentle rolling terrain; it’s the kind of place where a three-year-old dog can tire out without strain, though the uneven ground and occasional gopher holes mean you’ll want to watch your step. Mornings before 10 a.m. stay quieter, especially on weekdays, and the park drains fast after summer heat breaks in September.

Dogs must be leashed outside the fenced off-leash area, which takes up roughly the western third of the property and has a secondary gate for small dogs if your dog prefers lower-energy play. The main enclosure is spacious—not cramped—with water stations at the entrance and mid-loop. Standard bag dispensers sit near both entry points. No time limit on visits, and the park opens at sunrise. Parking is immediate at the lot on Campus Park Drive, with ADA spaces available.

The terrain inside the fenced area is mostly dirt and packed earth with some sandy patches that dry fast after the rare winter rain. Elevation changes are minimal once you’re in the off-leash zone, making it accessible for seniors or dogs recovering from minor injuries. The loop itself takes about 20 minutes at a moderate pace. Moorpark’s dry season (May through October) is the best window for regular visits; by August, the grass goes golden and dust can kick up during heavy play. The park borders the Moorpark College campus to the east but has its own distinct boundary, so the college crowd doesn’t overflow into the dog area during peak times. If you visit midday in summer, bring extra water—the dispensers work, but they can be slow on 95-degree days.
