The 126-acre Newhall Community Park sprawls along Galindo Creek east of Treat Boulevard in Concord, with two convenient entry points: Newhall Parkway south of Clayton Road or from Turtle Creek Road. The creek winds through the property, creating a pleasant natural backbone for the park’s layout.
About 30 acres have been developed with amenities that draw both people and dogs. You’ll find ponds along the creek, a play structure, picnic areas, bocce courts, and turfed athletic fields scattered throughout. There’s a reservable group picnic area tucked into a creekside spot with large oak trees—useful if you’re planning a gathering. A Vietnam War Memorial sits at the vista point, offering a quiet spot for reflection.
The real draw for dog owners is the Paw Patch, a fenced off-leash area where your dog can run and socialize. There are two sections here: a smaller designated area strictly for dogs under 30 pounds, and a larger general area. If you have a small dog, you can let them use the bigger space at your discretion, but larger dogs are absolutely prohibited from the small dog section. This setup works well if you want to avoid the chaos of having a tiny dog mix with larger, more boisterous companions.
Outside the Paw Patch, leashes are required anywhere in the park. The surrounding landscape of creek, trees, and open space makes for pleasant walking on leash, though the real action for off-leash play happens in that fenced area. The park gets decent use on weekends, so arriving earlier in the day tends to mean a calmer experience at the Paw Patch. Bring water for your dog since the creek is there but not always accessible from the fenced dog area.
