Obexer’s General Store sits right on Lake Tahoe’s Homewood shore, where you can pull up with your dog after a morning of paddling or just wanting to escape the crowds. It’s been family-owned since 1936, and that history shows — this place feels like it belongs here, not like it was transplanted from somewhere else. The full-service marina keeps things busy with boaters, but there’s a separate, quieter beach area away from the main boat launch where you and your dog can actually enjoy the water without dodging jet skis.
The deli counter inside serves solid sandwiches and fresh salads, the kind of food you actually want to eat when you’re hungry from being outside all day. You can take your order out to the dog-friendly patio overlooking the marina. It’s spacious enough that your dog can stretch out beside you while you eat, and there’s enough activity to watch that neither of you gets bored. The pebbly shoreline beyond the patio is where things get interesting for dogs — the water’s calm here, the sand is smooth underfoot, and there are trees providing shade if the sun gets intense. If your dog likes to swim, this is a genuinely good spot. If they prefer to just wade and splash around, that works too.
The staff asks that you clean up after your dog, which keeps the beach nice for everyone else using it. There’s real room to roam along the water if your dog needs to burn energy, and you’ll often see other dogs around, so socialization happens naturally. The whole setup — marina activity, quiet beach access, food without having to drive elsewhere — makes this work as a legitimate half-day destination rather than just a quick stop. The mountain air and water views don’t hurt either.
