The Parkview Trail in Redding is a half-mile paved path that connects the Parkview neighborhood directly to City Hall while hugging the Sacramento River, making it one of the more accessible green spaces in town if you’re not up for a serious hike. The concrete surface is smooth and wide enough that you won’t feel cramped, and the grade is gentle enough that it works equally well for a slow morning walk or a quicker outing if you’re short on time.
We took our dog on a weekday afternoon and appreciated how straightforward the route is—there’s no confusion about where you’re going or any tricky terrain to navigate. The Sacramento River views are the main draw here, and they’re pleasant without being dramatic. You’ll see the water and some native vegetation, but this is more about getting outside for a comfortable walk than experiencing backcountry wilderness.
The trail allows dogs on-leash, which we found reasonable given how close it is to the neighborhoods and City Hall. There are water stations along the route, which was helpful on a warm day. Keep in mind there aren’t restrooms on the trail itself, so plan accordingly if you’re coming from farther away.
Parkview Trail works best as a casual neighborhood outing rather than a destination hike. It’s the kind of place where locals probably walk regularly, and it has that established, well-maintained feel. If you’re staying in Redding and want something quick and easy that lets your dog stretch their legs near the river without driving anywhere, this delivers. It’s also flat enough that older dogs or those recovering from injuries can handle it without stress.
