Each of the California Welcome Centers scattered throughout the state are staffed with personal travel concierges. These knowledgeable experts are ready to provide information that will enhance and enrich your visit including suggestions on where to eat, what to see, and where to stay. The Pismo Beach Welcome Center offers Public Telephone, Restrooms, Picnic Area, Internet/E-mail, Refreshments, Travel Information/Brochures, Maps, Hotel Information and Referrals, Nearby Restaurants, RV Parking, Handicapped Access, and a Lounge.
Well-behaved dogs on leash are welcome inside the Welcome Center itself, and there’s a small dog park right on the grounds where your dog can get some movement after a car ride. The staff keeps dog treats available inside if you want to reward good behavior, and most of the stores at the nearby Pismo Beach Premium Outlets are dog-friendly too, so you can browse over 40 brand-name shops without leaving your dog behind.
The Welcome Center is a smart starting point for planning the rest of your Pismo Beach trip with your dog in tow. You can grab maps and brochures for local attractions, get restaurant recommendations from staff who know which places have good outdoor seating, and find hotel information for dog-friendly accommodations along the beach. From here, you’re close to the famous Splash Cafe & Hoagies, the San Luis Obispo Farmers Market, and the Pismo Beach State Dunes with over 72 miles of beach to explore. If you’re interested in wine country, the staff can point you toward dog-friendly wineries in the rolling hills of Paso Robles (over 105 to choose from) or the closer Edna Valley area.
Hearst Castle and the elephant seals are nearby too, though you’ll want to confirm dog policies for those attractions ahead of time. Stop by the Welcome Center first to get your bearings and load up on free information about what’s actually dog-friendly in the area, rather than spending your afternoon calling ahead to find out.
