The Red Roof Inn & Suites Monterey sits right off Highway 1 near the junction where Monterey, Seaside, and Del Rey Oaks meet, which means you’re within a 10-minute drive of most of what makes the area worth visiting. The beach and Monterey Fairgrounds are less than 5 miles away, and if your dog needs a longer walk or a run, there’s usually something nearby to explore.
From here, Fisherman’s Warf and Cannery Row are short drives—good spots if you want to grab lunch and do some shopping while your dog hangs out in the car, though you could also pick up takeout and eat back at the hotel. Pebble Beach and the 17-Mile Drive are about 15 minutes away if you’re up for a scenic drive. Further out, there’s Big Sur, the various missions scattered throughout Monterey County, and some solid hiking if you want to get out with your dog for a real adventure.
The hotel works well if you’re visiting during Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey Auto Week, or other seasonal events in the area—the location is convenient for getting around, and they offer advance booking discounts plus plenty of parking. The rooms are non-smoking, and they’re straightforward about their dog policy: your dog needs to be declared when you check in, kept on a leash outside the room, and never left unattended in the guestroom. That last one’s worth taking seriously since housekeeping and other guests will be passing by.
When you’re walking your dog on the property, clean up after them—same as anywhere else. It’s a standard motel setup, nothing fancy, but the location is genuinely useful if you’re using Monterey as a base to explore the coast rather than staying in the downtown area.
