Retrievers & Friends of Southern California (RFSC) is an all-volunteer nonprofit rescue based in Temecula that specializes in golden and Labrador retrievers throughout the region. The organization takes dogs from owners who can’t keep them anymore and places them into foster care with volunteers until permanent homes open up. What makes RFSC different is their lifetime commitment to each dog they rescue. If an adoption doesn’t work out for any reason, the dog can come back to the organization for re-placement—no questions asked, no judgment. That safety net matters for both dogs and adopters who want to know they’re making a decision with a genuine support system behind it.

Since RFSC operates entirely through volunteers working evening and weekend hours around their day jobs, there’s no physical shelter location to visit. Instead, the organization handles everything through email and phone calls, which actually means more of their resources go directly to caring for the dogs in their foster network. If you’re thinking about adopting, reaching out via email works best and gets your application into the system efficiently.

The rescue pulls dogs from various parts of Southern California, not just the immediate Temecula area, so you might find retrievers coming from different backgrounds and situations. Each dog gets veterinary care, temperament assessment, and time with a foster family before adoption, giving you a real sense of the dog’s personality and needs before you commit.

If you’re local to Riverside County and interested in helping, RFSC always needs foster families—probably the most impactful way to contribute since that’s where the real work happens. Volunteering time, donations, or supplies also keep things running. Check their website to see which dogs are currently available and to start the adoption application process. Email remains your best contact method for any questions about a specific dog or how you might get involved.
