Second Chance Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 California corporation dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cocker spaniels in need across the state. Located in Twain Harte, Tuolumne County, in Gold Country, this all-volunteer organization works tirelessly to find loving homes for these dogs, including providing sanctuary for older or chronically ill spaniels who might otherwise have nowhere to go.

If you’re thinking about adopting a cocker spaniel, visiting Second Chance gives you a chance to meet dogs that are already being cared for by people who know their personalities, quirks, and special needs intimately. Since the rescue operates on volunteers rather than paid staff, the people you talk to have usually spent considerable time with the dogs available for adoption. They can tell you honestly about a dog’s temperament, any health issues, and whether they’d be a good fit for your household and lifestyle.

The rescue also maintains sanctuary homes for senior spaniels and dogs with chronic health conditions — situations where adopting out might not be realistic or in the dog’s best interest. These dogs still get care, attention, and comfortable living situations for their remaining years. If you’re not in a position to adopt but want to help, Second Chance accepts donations and can always use volunteers.

The organization serves the entire state of California, so whether you live in the Bay Area, Southern California, or inland regions, you might find your next dog through them. Since they’re volunteer-run, it’s worth reaching out directly to ask about current dogs available, what the adoption process looks like, and how you can help their efforts. The Twain Harte location in the Sierra foothills makes for a scenic drive if you’re planning to visit in person.
