Sierra Trails RV Park sits two miles north of Highway 58 on Highway 14 in the Mojave area, at an elevation of 2,750 feet where the air stays clean and the sun typically shines bright. The high desert location means warm days and cool nights—the kind of temperature swings that actually feel refreshing after a day of exploring.
The park makes a solid base for hitting some genuinely impressive nearby attractions. Red Rock Canyon is close enough for a morning hike, and the Poppy Reserve offers trails through wildflowers if you’re visiting during the right season. If your dog can handle a bit of desert history, the Borax Mines and the 20 Mule Team Museum are worth a drive. Death Valley isn’t far either, though you’ll want to check current conditions and park rules for dogs before heading out—it’s mostly hiking in early morning or evening anyway because of the heat.
The park itself has that quiet, low-key feeling where you can actually relax between adventures. Bring a hammock if you’ve got one; the grounds give you space to spread out and decompress without feeling crowded. This is one of those places where you’re not paying for bells and whistles but for actual peace and accessibility to good hiking country.
To get there from Highway 58, take Exit 167 and head north on Highway 14 toward Bishop. Drive about two miles until you reach California City Boulevard, then exit and turn right. Get into the left lane immediately and turn onto Frontage Road—the park entrance is on your right. It’s straightforward enough once you know the turn sequence, though the frontage road bit catches some people off guard if they’re not paying attention.
