Silver Strand Beach

Silver Strand Beach

End of Victoria Ave., Oxnard, California 93035

Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard is one of those rare stretches of California coast where you can actually bring your dog into the water without hassle. The mile-long beach has a distinctly local feel—you’ll see serious surfers in wetsuits paddling out alongside families and people just looking for a quiet afternoon by the ocean.

The sand really does have that silvery quality the name promises, and the beach is wide enough that even on moderately busy days it doesn’t feel crowded. You can walk your dog along the shoreline for miles if you want, or set up near the parking area for a shorter outing. The waves here attract boogie boarders and body surfers, so there’s usually some activity to watch while you’re hanging out.

Getting there is straightforward—there are two free parking lots with access from sunrise to sunset. The north end has public restrooms, which is genuinely helpful when you’re spending a few hours with a dog. You won’t find fancy amenities or a lot of development along the beach itself, which is part of its appeal. It’s a working beach rather than a resort-style destination.

The water tends to be chilly even in summer, so your dog might not want to stay in long. The sand can get quite warm under your feet midday, so consider arriving earlier in the day if you’re planning a longer stay. There’s enough open space that you can let your dog roam without feeling like they’re in anyone’s way, though you’ll want to keep an eye on them around the surfers and swimmers. It’s a straightforward, no-frills beach day—bring water and snacks, and plan for about two to three hours before the sun gets too intense.
