South Pawsadena Dog Park

South Pawsadena Dog Park

South Pawsadena Dog Park

650 Stoney Drive, South Pasadena, California 91030

(626) 403-7380

The park sits on a hillside with good tree cover and surprisingly clear sightlines—you can see most of the off-leash area from the entrance, which matters when you’re scanning for your dog in a crowd. South Pawsadena is actually two distinct spaces: a larger section for standard dogs and a separate enclosure for small dogs, each fully fenced. The main area spreads across several acres with a mix of grass and decomposed granite, so it drains reasonably well after rain, and the terrain has some gentle slope that makes chase games more interesting than flat parks. Trees provide real shade in the morning and late afternoon, crucial during warm months.

Dogs are off-leash in both enclosures, and there’s a two-gate entry system to prevent escapes—standard but worth noting if you have a bolter. The small-dog area works well for dogs under 25 pounds or so, though the park doesn’t enforce a strict weight limit; it’s more about temperament fit. Water is available from spigots throughout the grounds, though you’ll want to bring a bowl since there’s no dedicated fountain setup. The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset, which shifts considerably between seasons.

Peak times cluster around mornings before 9 a.m. and late afternoons after 4 p.m., especially on weekends. Weekday midday visits tend to be quieter. The neighborhood around Stoney Drive is fairly residential, so parking is street-side along the park’s perimeter—not a huge lot, and it fills during busy hours. The park is well-maintained overall, though like most public dog parks, the condition of grass and mulch varies with usage and weather. South Pasadena runs the park through its Parks and Recreation Department, and they do actually respond to maintenance requests, which you can report through the city website.
