Surfer's Point Beach, located off Figueroa Street in Ventura, is one of California’s premier surfing and windsurfing destinations. The consistent waves here draw serious water sports enthusiasts year-round, but it’s also a genuinely dog-friendly beach where you can walk your dog along the water’s edge and watch the action.

The Omer Rains Bike Trail runs right along the shore, connecting to the Ventura Pier and the beautifully landscaped promenade that stretches along the coastline. If your dog gets tired of sand, you can shift to the paved pathway for a change of pace while still taking in the Pacific views. The promenade itself is wide and well-maintained, making it comfortable for dogs who prefer walking on something firmer than sand.

Just behind the beach is Promenade Park, a quieter green space with some grassy areas where you can sit down after being in the water and sun. The park has an interesting history—it marks the location of an ancient Chumash village—and there’s an educational element to spending time there if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s a nice spot to let your dog cool off and rest.

The beach itself has the typical setup you’d expect: lifeguard towers during peak season, and plenty of parking nearby. The water can be cold, especially in winter, but most dogs don’t seem to mind much. Since this is primarily a working beach for surfers and windsurfers, it’s busier during certain conditions and times of day, so if you prefer a quieter experience, aim for less windy afternoons or off-season visits.

Bring fresh water for your dog since the saltwater and sun can dehydrate them quickly, and rinse them off afterward if you can to prevent salt drying out their coat.
