Temple Coffee Roasters opened their Davis location in Yolo County as their first expansion beyond Sacramento, and it’s genuinely worth the drive if you’re serious about coffee. Walking in, you’ll immediately notice the serious equipment—Kyoto drippers, a Curtis Seraphim pour-over module, and a custom Nitro tap system that you don’t see at most coffee shops. They’re not just installed for show; the staff actually knows how to use all of it, and you can watch them work while you wait for your order.
The Davis spot has a relaxed vibe that works well for hanging out with your dog. They welcome well-behaved dogs, and there’s enough space that it doesn’t feel cramped when other people bring theirs along. The coffee itself is the real draw though. These aren’t standard espresso drinks—they’re experimenting with extraction methods and single-origins that change regularly, and the people making them clearly care about getting it right. If you’re into the technical side of coffee, you can actually talk to them about what they’re doing. If you just want a really good cup, that works too.
The setting feels deliberately low-key for a place with this much specialized equipment. There’s none of that sterile coffee-shop aesthetic; it’s more like someone who’s genuinely into coffee opened a place where other people could experience what they’re excited about. Bring your dog, order something you wouldn’t normally find elsewhere, and stick around long enough to watch how they’re brewing it. It’s the kind of place where you’ll either think it’s exactly what you’ve been looking for, or you’ll appreciate the effort even if it’s not your speed. Either way, you’re getting coffee that’s been thought through from bean to cup.
