The Mammoth Inn is a newly remodeled bed and breakfast tucked in Mammoth Lakes’ residential area, and it’s one of the few places in town that welcomes dogs without making a fuss about it. The eight rooms are straightforward and comfortable, each with a complimentary continental breakfast included. What makes it work for a dog trip is the location—you’re steps from local restaurants and shops, and more importantly, within walking distance to The Village and Canyon Lodge Gondola. In winter, that means easy access to some of the best skiing in the region. Summer’s different; you’re minutes from some of the West Coast’s most substantial hiking and biking trails, the kind where your dog can actually get a real workout.
The inn allows up to two dogs per room, which is genuinely helpful if you’re traveling with multiple dogs or just prefer not to leave yours alone in the car while you eat dinner. There is a pet fee of $30 per night for one dog and $45 per night for two dogs. Dogs can’t be left unattended in the rooms, so you’ll need to plan accordingly if you want to spend time at restaurants or shops—but that’s a reasonable trade-off for somewhere that actually welcomes them.
The rooms themselves are nothing fancy, but they’re clean and comfortable enough that you won’t feel like you’re sacrificing. The breakfast keeps things simple, which means you’re not paying a premium price tag. If you’re planning a Mammoth Lakes trip centered around hiking, skiing, or just having your dog enjoy the mountain air without worrying about whether the place is going to give you grief about it, this works well. The real value is having a dog-friendly base in a central location.
