The Oasis Campground sits on an island in the northeastern corner of Clear Lake, and it’s one of those places where you actually feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Every campsite is waterfront—you wake up to water views and can fish right from where you’re sleeping or launch a boat if you bring one. The lake itself is the largest freshwater body in California and also the oldest natural lake in North America, which is pretty wild to think about while you’re sitting by your fire ring.
The setup is pretty straightforward. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and you’re dealing with dry camping here, but some sites can handle RVs up to 26 feet if you want to bring yours. There’s drinking water available, plus showers and bathrooms on site, so you’re not roughing it completely. The bird and wildlife activity is constant—you’ll see plenty of action on the water throughout the day and into evening.
Your dog needs to stay on leash, which makes sense given the island setting and all the activity happening around the lake. The campground welcomes well-behaved dogs, so as long as yours is comfortable with the general camping environment—campfires, other campers, boats coming and going—they should do fine here. The waterfront location means your dog will get used to water sounds and activity, and there’s usually enough space around campsites that dogs aren’t packed in too tightly.
This is a solid choice if you want a straightforward camping experience without all the extra amenities some places push. You’re paying for the location and the water access, and that’s really the draw. The retro feel isn’t forced—it’s just how the place operates. Reservations are worth planning ahead for, especially during warmer months when everyone wants a lakefront spot.
