This trail is managed by the Conejo Open Space Foundation and offers a solid mid-range workout for you and your dog without being overwhelming. The 4.75-mile round trip climbs about 1000 feet total, which means you’ll feel it in your legs by the time you’re heading back to the car, but it’s doable for most dogs in decent shape.

The hike starts at Triunfo Park’s second parking lot (you’ll take Tamarack off Triunfo to reach it) and begins on a single-track trail that steadily gains elevation as it heads toward Los Robles Trail. Once you hit the utility road at Los Robles Trail, the scenery opens up considerably. The loop at the eastern end of Los Robles gives you actual views instead of just more chaparral, and that’s where you’ll appreciate the elevation gain—it puts you up high enough to see across the valley. The return follows the same route back, which is nice because you’re not scrambling to navigate an unfamiliar trail when you’re tired.

Your dog needs to be leashed the entire time (six feet maximum), and you’ll want to bring water for both of you since there’s no shade to speak of on the exposed sections. The trail gets decent sun exposure, so an early morning start makes sense, especially on warmer days. It’s popular enough that you’ll see other hikers, including other dogs, which is nice for the social aspect but means you won’t feel like you’ve discovered some secret spot.

The Conejo Recreation & Park District maintains this well enough that you won’t encounter surprising erosion or overgrowth, though the trail is clearly well-traveled. Bring a poop bag and use the trash cans at the parking area—this is a well-managed park and people seem to respect it. Plan for about two hours including a break at the viewpoint.
