Twin Falls Overlook offers a scenic vista and parking area from Lakes Basin Path. You and your dog can stretch your legs and enjoy a panoramic view of Twin Lakes Falls, Mammoth Mountain, Panorama Dome and the town of Mammoth Lakes below. The overlook itself is a straightforward stop—pull in, take in the views, and let your dog move around a bit after the drive up to Mammoth Lakes.
Before you leave, cross the street to enjoy the view of Lake Mamie from a different angle. The water reflects the surrounding peaks nicely, and it’s a good spot to let your dog get a drink if you’ve brought a collapsible bowl. If you’d like a different perspective on the falls themselves, drive down to Twin Lakes Campground and take a stroll on the bridge. From there, you can watch the waterfall pouring directly into the lake—it’s a more intimate view than from the overlook, and the bridge walk gives both you and your dog a chance to stretch out a bit more.
The Lakes Basin Path area draws a fair number of hikers, especially on weekends, so if you’re visiting during peak season, go early to have a more peaceful experience. The parking area can fill up, and the overlook gets crowded once people start arriving mid-morning.
Winter access changes things considerably. You’ll need snowshoes or cross-country skis to get there once snow arrives, and during years when snow is plentiful, access may be impeded well into the summer months. It’s worth calling ahead during spring or early summer to check current conditions before making the drive. If you’re visiting in shoulder seasons, the weather can shift quickly at this elevation, so bring a layer even if it seems warm in town.
