Ventura Harbor Village is a dog-friendly coastal destination offering plenty of fun for both you and your dog. The scenic walking promenade stretches from Derecktor Marina to the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center, giving you and your pup a lengthy route to explore with stunning harbor views. The path itself is wide and open, so dogs have room to move comfortably alongside you while you take in the water and watch boats coming and going. Throughout the village, you’ll notice doggie bag stations and a convenient doggie water fountain near the Channel Islands Courtyard, which is helpful on warmer days when your dog needs a quick drink.
Many of the restaurants and shops cater to dogs as well. Several spots have dog-friendly patios where you can sit with your pup while you eat, and some places even keep treats on hand. Coastal Cone & The Parlor goes further than most, offering three flavors of “Pupcream” specifically made for dogs—it’s a fun treat if your dog has a taste for something cold.
If you want to get your dog on the water, Ventura Boat Rentals lets you bring dogs along for rides on electric boats, pedal boats, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. It’s a different experience from the usual land-based walk, and some dogs really enjoy being out on the water. The village hosts dog-friendly events throughout the year too, including the Annual HOWL-O-Ween Pet Costume Contest in October if you’re visiting in fall.
The whole setup works well because there’s ample space for dogs to move around, the atmosphere is genuinely welcoming rather than just tolerant, and the mix of water views, dining options, and actual dog-focused amenities makes it feel like the place was designed with dogs in mind. Parking is available throughout the village, though it can get busy on weekends.
