Vista Meadows Park in Livermore sits on a hillside with views that stretch across the surrounding landscape, and it’s one of the better spots in the East Bay if you want your dog to have serious room to run. The main draw is the nearly 39,000-square-foot fenced off-leash area positioned just over the crest of the hill. To get there, you follow a paved path uphill from the play area—it’s a gradual climb but straightforward enough.
Once you reach that grassy hillside, you’ll see why dogs love it here. The space is genuinely expansive, which means your dog won’t be constantly dodging other dogs or squished into a tight enclosure. The fencing is solid, and the grass handles the traffic well. We’ve taken our dog here on weekends and weekday mornings both—the weekday visits are noticeably calmer if you’re looking to give your dog a chance to really explore without constant pack dynamics.
Beyond the off-leash area, Vista Meadows has additional walking trails that wind through the greenery if you want to stay on-leash and take a longer exploration of the park. The whole setup is well-maintained, and the location in Livermore makes it accessible whether you’re local or just passing through the area.
One thing worth noting: because the off-leash area is fenced, you don’t have to worry about your dog taking off down the hill or toward the parking area. That peace of mind alone makes it worth the short drive if you’re anywhere in the East Bay. The views from up there are a nice bonus—you actually get to enjoy the scenery while your dog burns energy instead of just watching them the whole time.
