WOOF Pac sits on the eastern edge of Waller Park, a sprawling county recreation area in the rolling hills above Santa Maria. The dog park itself occupies a modest fenced section with a split layout—a smaller enclosure for dogs under 25 pounds and a larger area for bigger dogs. Both sides are surfaced with decomposed granite that drains well after Santa Maria’s occasional rain, so paws stay relatively dry even if the ground looks damp.
Dogs are allowed off-leash in both fenced areas, and the park has water stations so you’re not hauling full bowls from your car on warm days. Shade comes from a few mature trees scattered around the smaller-dog section; the larger area is more open and can feel exposed during midday heat. There’s no fee to use the park. Hours run from dawn to dusk, and the place tends to be quietest on weekday mornings—weekends draw families from Santa Maria and nearby Orcutt, especially in late afternoon.
Waller Park itself wraps around the dog area with additional amenities: picnic tables, a small playground, and trail access into the oak woodlands. The decomposed granite surface is easier on joints than concrete, though the smaller-dog area can get dusty on windy days common to this part of Santa Barbara County. If your dog needs more than a quick park session, the surrounding county property has room to walk before heading back. During summer, arrive early or later in the day—the open sections get hot and sun-exposed by midafternoon, and there’s limited shade for people waiting along the fence.
