Headed up Mendo County way?

A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

Seclusion is the name of the game at The Other Place, a dog-friendly complex of four cottages on a 500-acre ranch outside Boonville overlooking the gorgeous Anderson Valley. The ranch is just three minutes from town, where Sheep Dung Properties has another dog-friendly cottage rental, Boonville Downtown. Bring groceries, books and your hiking gear and be prepared to explore and relax.

And don’t worry about dog safety: all five vacation rentals are fenced and dog-proofed, and the in-town property also comes with an outdoor Japanese soaking tub and vineyard views.

Whichever cottage you choose, dozens of wineries and high-end restaurants are within a few minutes’ to a half-hour drive away. Or even less: The Boonville cottage is within walking distance of restaurants and stores. And while the ranch properties, which range in size from a studio cottage to a deluxe two-bedroom house, are a bit further afield, they’re only minutes from the in-town action.

Full kitchens, wood-burning stoves and WiFi are all included, but management asks that you bring a sheet to cover the bed if your pooch is a sleep companion.  And yes, you’re welcome to roam leash-free all around the ranch. The property encompasses a pond, hiking trails and….did we mention the views? Your dog may not appreciate them, but her people surely will!
