Local pints, with your pup by your side

Good things are brewing on the Mendocino County Beer Trail. This corner of California is home to the storied Boonville Beer Festival, plus more than a dozen breweries, bottle shops and friendly pubs that pour regional beers. Whether you’re sipping somewhere along the coast or chatting with neighbors at inland taprooms, you’ll find pet-friendly patios and natural beauty throughout the area.

The Mendocino County Beer Trail map offers plenty of tasting tour ideas. Start your journey in Fort Bragg, where Tall Guy Brewing is a busy community gathering spot. Founder Patrick Broderick sharpened his skills with North Coast Brewing and Anheuser-Busch before opening his own downtown taproom – a dog-friendly and family-friendly space – in a former retail building.

Meet local dog lovers on the covered patio at Overtime Brewing, where leashed pups are welcomed with water bowls and kind attention. The small brewery serves fresh pub fare and flavorful beers like a jasmine green tea pilsner, an English-style ale and a best-selling American-style IPA. A few blocks away, North Coast Brewing pours Scrimshaw, Old Rasputin and other favorites on a pet-friendly patio.

Head inland to reach Ukiah Brewing Company, which sources fresh vegetables from Mendocino County producers. The sustainably minded brewery has been filling pint glasses for 25 years, turning out everything from a 90s-era red ale to a double dry-hopped cold IPA. Four-legged guests are welcome at patio tables.

Over at Anderson Valley Brewing Company, you’ll find a 30-acre outdoor beer park with an 18-hole disc golf course, a stage for live music, and tons of seating. Dogs and kids are welcome, and the venue has lots of trees and grassy areas perfect for playing fetch. With 20 beers on tap, plus a rotating selection of local food vendors serving on site, it’s a great place to spend a sunny afternoon.
