Since we last checked in with Napa Humane, they've been working hard for the critters of Napa Valley. Besides working with local shelters and rescues to get dogs (and other species) into loving forever homes, Napa Humane offers community support resources to keep pets well and happy with the families they've already got—and prevent them from landing in the shelter system in the first place.
In 2016 alone, its clinic spayed or neutered 4,300 dogs, cats, and rabbits, but the work didn't stop there. Reports Napa Humane's Adrienne Amdahl: "Every Friday we offer our drop-in vaccination and microchip clinic. In 2016 we provided low-cost vaccinations to more than 2,000 dogs and cats, and microchipped more than 1,500 pets, helping ensure their health and security."
Then there's the humane education program, which offers classes to school kids on such subjects as "Responsible Pet Care" and "Safe Around Cats and Dogs." They also have a humane reading list with books that they have purchased and donated to the local libraries. And, for those moments when you and Fido are having a failure to communicate, the Behavior Hotline is ready to help.
All this is made possible by the kind support of many volunteers and donors. The local business community pitches in also—like the noted wineries taking part in Pawsport Napa Valley this May 18-21, 2017.
