Palm Springs tops the Condé Nast Traveler awards

When Conde Nast Traveler announced its prestigious Readers’ Choice Awards 2024, two California hotels made the list of 10 Best Hotels in the World. The luxurious, adults-only Palm Springs properties earned accolades after beating out hotels across the United States and the globe.

Hermann Bungalows landed at an impressive #3, while Colony Palms Hotel secured the #7 spot. What makes these properties so special? Here’s why each is an ideal overnight option for you and your pup.

The Greater Palm Springs region boasts year-round sunshine, architectural splendor and dog-friendly parks and attractions, from desert hiking trails to outdoor cafes to breweries. The warm desert air, wide-open spaces and relaxed vibe make it a top pick for dog owners looking to get away from the daily grind.

Both Conde Nast honorees welcome dogs. Hermann Bungalows is a 24-room resort with upscale amenities like 600-count linens, Nest thermostats, floor-to-ceiling windows and private patios with nature views. Your pup can lounge on the patio while you soak in the desert scenery — not a bad way to spend a morning.

For a 1930s classic with Art Deco design highlights, book a room at the Colony Palms Hotel. The downtown Palm Springs property, also part of the Hermann Luxury Resorts Portfolio, has poolside dining, spa services and dog-friendly rooms with direct outdoor access. The direct patio access is a real plus for early-morning and late-night bathroom runs with your pup.

Dogs must be leashed while exploring these two well-landscaped hotels. Each property charges a $150 pet fee, so plan for that when budgeting your trip. Guests are asked to take dogs off-premises for bathroom breaks, and front desk staffers provide waste bags upon request. Watch the hotels’ websites for special offers that might include seasonal discounts, complimentary breakfast or resort credits for extended stays.

Whether you’re staying at Hermann Bungalows or Colony Palms, you’ll be within easy reach of dog-friendly dining patios, desert trails and off-leash parks scattered throughout the Greater Palm Springs area. It’s a solid base for a dog-friendly desert getaway.
