Field-fresh ingredients and local wines headline menus throughout California’s sunny capital city. Start your day at one of several Temple Coffee Roasters locations. The local brand prides itself on eco-friendly packaging and a sustainable supply chain.

The S Street location shares a pup-friendly patio with Revolution Winery & Kitchen. This Midtown Sacramento mainstay serves creative vegan and gluten-free dishes and serves wines made from grapes grown within a 60-mile radius.

To sip wine at the source, follow Highway 50 east to the Apple Hill Growers region. Established in 1964 with 16 apple ranches, Apple Hill Growers now features about 50 family farms, wineries, bakeries and gardens.

Dogs are welcome at many of these family-friendly stops between Placerville and Pollock Pines, and the fall season presents opportunities to shop for apples, pumpkins, pies and ciders.

The Apple Hill Wine Trail includes several wineries that accommodate pups. DogTrekker readers give high marks to Lava Cap, which opens its picnic grounds to furry friends. Seating here has panoramic views of the property’s hillside vineyards. Nearby, Boeger Winery is known for award-winning Barbera releases.
