Trinity County: Remote, relaxing and ruggedly beautiful

Trinity County extends along the western edge of the Shasta Cascade region, well separated from busy Interstate 5. Just under 14,000 residents live here, and they’ve traded traffic and incorporated cities for the breathtakingly beautiful Trinity Alps Wilderness Area, the Trinity River (a designated part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System), and Gold Rush-era towns with rich recreational options.

Four-legged and two-legged travelers will find countless activities to enjoy in this rugged, remote corner of Northern California.

Start a Trinity County getaway in Weaverville, where cafes, museums and shops occupy picture-perfect 1850s structures. Head north to dog-friendly Coffee Creek for Trinity Alps adventures, and consider pausing at Trinity Lake. It’s a hub for boating, swimming and paddleboarding with furry friends.

Head to low-key Lewiston Lake for Lakeview Terrace Resort, which accommodates well-behaved dogs in select cabins. Cozy accommodations feature all the comforts of home, plus outdoor picnic and fire pit areas surrounded by nature. Guests enjoy access to kayak and canoe rentals, playground equipment, a heated swimming pool, an on-site snack shop and more.

Hiking trails leave right from the property, and because the resort is in a remote area, routes tend to be quieter and less crowded here than elsewhere in the Shasta Cascade region.
