Antlers RV Park & Campground sits right on the shores of Shasta Lake, just 30 minutes north of Redding in Lakehead, and it’s one of the better spots in the area if you’re bringing your dog camping. The park is adjacent to Antlers Resort and Marina, so you’re looking at actual lake access — not just views from a distance. The campground offers both RV sites with full hookups and tent sites that are shaded, which matters when you’re dealing with Shasta County heat in summer. What I appreciated is that the setup doesn’t feel cramped. There’s room to move around without your dog constantly crossing into neighboring campsites.
The main draw here is Shasta Lake itself. You can take your dog swimming or wading right from the park, and there are hiking trails in the surrounding area if you want to get away from the water for a day. The landscape is genuinely nice — pine-covered hills and clear water — so it doesn’t feel like you’re just parking an RV in a lot somewhere. The water stays relatively cool even in peak summer, and most dogs adjust quickly to having direct lake access from their campsite.
There’s a full-service store and snack bar on the property, which is genuinely useful when you realize you forgot something or need ice for the cooler. It saves the drive into town and means you can grab supplies without leaving your dog unattended for long. The park is dog-friendly overall, though specific policies about where dogs can go and whether there are any size restrictions are worth confirming before you book.
This works well if you want a base camp for a week of lake time rather than a quick overnight stop. Having the marina right there means you could arrange boat rentals or just hang around the water without much effort. Summer weekends will be busy, but off-season visits give you a much quieter experience with easier beach access. Bring your dog’s favorite toys and plan for plenty of water time — that’s really the whole appeal of staying here.
