Located at the foot of a rustic forested hillside just outside downtown Calistoga, this collection of historic cottages and suites offers the kind of old-school charm you don’t find much anymore. The buildings date back to the 1830s, and the terraced grounds are lined with moss-covered fieldstone walls that give the whole place a genuinely lived-in, settled feeling rather than something designed to look that way.

Each cottage or suite is completely private with its own entrance and large front sitting porch—the kind of setup where you and your dog can ease into the morning without bumping into other guests. Inside you’ll find claw-foot tubs with showers, queen feather beds, working fireplaces or candlelit ambiance in the living rooms, kitchen areas, Wi-Fi, cable TVs, and CD players. Climate control via air conditioning keeps things comfortable on warm valley days.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome here, which is genuinely appreciated. The staff does ask that you have your dog well-brushed before arrival, which is a reasonable request that keeps the cottages nice for everyone.

The location works well if you’re spending time in the Napa Valley wine country but want something quieter than the busier resort areas. Calistoga itself is walkable and has good restaurants and shops. You’re close to hiking trails in the surrounding hills and the various parks the area offers. The cottages feel removed enough that you get a genuine sense of retreat without being isolated—you can walk into town fairly easily with your dog.
