Cambria Beach Lodge sits right across from Moonstone Beach, which means you can walk out your door and be on the sand within minutes. The beach itself has a long stretch where dogs are welcome, and the tide pools along the shore are fascinating to explore—my dog spent a good twenty minutes investigating the rocks while I watched the waves.
The rooms are straightforward and comfortable, with that casual California coastal vibe. They’re not fancy, but they’re clean and have everything you need after a day of beach time. The location is really the main draw here. You’re staying within easy reach of some solid dog-friendly spots around town. Moonstone Beach runs right adjacent to the lodge, and there are walking trails that head north along the bluffs if you want to get away from the main beach area.
Cambria itself is a charming small town with plenty of character. The downtown area has galleries, shops, and restaurants, many with outdoor seating where your dog can hang out while you grab lunch. East Village and West Village are the two main walkable areas, and both are dog-friendly for strolling around. If you want more serious hiking, Fiscalini Ranch Preserve is just outside town and has several trails where dogs can run off-leash in designated areas.
The lodge’s staff is used to dogs staying there, and they seem genuinely fine with pets being part of the experience. Parking is available right at the property, which makes loading and unloading gear easy after beach walks. Given that you’re literally across the street from one of the prettiest beaches in San Luis Obispo County and close to everything Cambria has to offer, the location makes this a practical choice for a dog-friendly coastal stay. Just bring a towel or two—sandy paws after beach walks are inevitable.
