Centerville Beach County Park is a hidden gem for dog owners looking to enjoy the pristine beauty of Northern California’s coastline. Located just five miles west of the charming Victorian Village of Ferndale, this stunning 9-mile stretch of sand is not only a perfect getaway for families but also a paradise for dogs and their owners. From October through February, dogs under complete voice control can roam freely off-leash, allowing them to experience the joy of running along the surf and exploring the wide-open spaces of the beach. Just remember that between March and September, dogs are required to stay on the wave slope, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors.

Surrounded by picturesque dairy country, the park offers breathtaking views of impressive sandstone cliffs, creating a striking backdrop for your beach day. The area is rich in wildlife, making it an excellent spot for birdwatching. Keep your eyes peeled for migrating whales in April and May; you might just catch a glimpse of mother whales swimming with their young as they come closer to shore. The wide beach is perfect for walking, and the sandy terrain gives your dog’s legs a good workout without the joint impact of harder surfaces.

Centerville Beach is a wonderful place to relax alongside your dog. Bring along a picnic to enjoy while you take in the soothing sounds of the waves crashing against the shore. The beach is also a great spot for horseback riding, so if you have equine companions, they can join in the fun. With plenty of space to search for shells or set up a beach bonfire as the sun begins to set, the park offers a variety of activities that cater to every kind of beachgoer. The off-leash months are ideal if your dog loves water play, though even during restricted months there’s plenty of room to explore the edges of this impressive coastline. Bring fresh water for your dog since the ocean salt can be rough on their coat, and plan to rinse them off before heading back home.
