Central Park in Fremont, commonly called Lake Elizabeth, spans 450 acres around an 83-acre lake that gives you plenty of room to explore with your dog on leash. The park has different personalities depending on where you wander—some sections feel quiet and wooded, while others open up to water views and grassier areas where you can actually see other dogs and people without feeling crowded.

The dedicated dog park sits just off Stevenson Boulevard near the Fremont Animal Shelter. It’s split into two turfed sections, with the larger one covering 1.2 acres and equipped with artificial turf and lights. That lighting matters if you’re planning to come after work in the winter months—you won’t be fumbling around in the dark trying to keep track of your dog. The space is fully enclosed, which takes the stress out of keeping an eye on your dog while they’re playing.

Around the main lake, the walking paths give you decent scenery without being overly manicured. You’ll find shaded seating scattered throughout if you want to sit and watch your dog burn off energy on the grass, and there are spots where dogs can wade into the water if they’re into that sort of thing. The park hosts various community events throughout the year, so it’s worth checking what’s happening if you’re a regular—it’s a good way to connect with other dog owners in the area.

The park fills up on weekends, especially around the dog park and the main lake areas, but it’s large enough that you can usually find a quieter corner if you want one. The landscape is pretty open once you’re away from the parking areas, so you can see what’s coming. Bring water for your dog if you’re planning a longer outing, as not all areas have easy access to it.
