Costeaux French Bakery is a block and a half from downtown Healdsburg Plaza, and the open-air patio here is genuinely one of the better spots in town to sit with your dog while eating actual good food. It’s a full-service scratch bakery doing the kind of thing that takes real skill — their sourdough and artisan breads are made daily, and the bistro menu pulls from French cuisine without feeling pretentious about it. The pastries are legitimately excellent, the kind of thing that makes a morning coffee actually worth lingering over.
The patio is the real draw if you’re traveling with a dog. It’s a proper outdoor setup where dogs are genuinely welcome, and you can watch your dog settle into the shade while you work through a croissant or a sandwich. The setting lets you see the pleasant downtown Healdsburg streets — lined with boutique shops, restaurants, and wine tasting rooms if you want to keep exploring after eating.
The menu covers breakfast and lunch solidly, with the kind of made-to-order approach that means things actually taste like they were made that morning rather than heated up from a back freezer. Recently they’ve added Tuesday and Wednesday dinner service on the patio too, which gives you a chance for an evening meal if you’re staying in the area midweek.
One thing worth knowing: the patio can get busy during peak breakfast and lunch hours, especially on weekends when Healdsburg’s wine tourism traffic picks up. The space itself isn’t huge, so if you’re going with a dog who gets anxious around other people, you might want to come earlier rather than later. The coffee is consistently good, which matters if you’re the type who gets particular about that sort of thing. Parking on the surrounding streets is standard Healdsburg — not terrible, but not guaranteed right out front either, so give yourself a few minutes to find a spot.
