The Creekside Inn in Cambria is straightforward about welcoming dogs, and that’s refreshing if you’re traveling with yours on the Central Coast. Located in the village itself, it’s a low-key option that doesn’t treat your dog as an afterthought—they’re genuinely part of the welcome here. The rooms are spacious enough that your dog has actual room to move around, and you’ve got easy access to outdoor areas so they can get outside without much fuss.
Cambria itself is the real draw if you’re traveling with a dog. Moonstone Beach is a short walk away, and it’s one of those beaches where you can actually let your dog have a real experience—running on sand, getting in the water, the whole thing. The village has that California coastal charm without being pretentious, and plenty of local spots are cool with dogs hanging out while you grab coffee or eat. We saw dogs lounging on patios all over town without anyone making a big deal about it.
Beyond the beach, there are decent walking trails through the area, and if you want to see Hearst Castle, they allow dogs in some of the outdoor sections so your dog doesn’t have to sit in a hot car while you tour. The landscape around Cambria is genuinely pretty—rolling hills, coastal views, little neighborhoods worth wandering through on foot.
The inn itself won’t blow you away with luxury, but that’s kind of the point. It’s comfortable, not fussy, and the staff actually seems to like having dogs around. Rates are reasonable for the area, which matters when you’re trying to take a dog-friendly trip without spending a fortune. The main thing to do is call ahead about their current pet policy before you book, since those details can shift. But if you want a simple, dog-welcoming place to base yourself while exploring Cambria’s coast, this works well.
