Delmas Dog Park sits at the intersection of Park Avenue and Delmas Avenue in San Jose, and it’s one of those parks that actually works well for dogs with different personalities. The space spans over 17,000 square feet with a completely fenced perimeter and double-gated entrance, so you don’t have to worry about dogs slipping out or running into the street.
The layout makes sense for actual use. There’s a decomposed granite walking path if your dog prefers a quieter stroll, and a separate bark-mulch area where dogs can really run around and play without kicking up dust everywhere. The paths are wide enough that you’re not constantly dodging other dogs, which matters when you’ve got a nervous dog or one who gets overwhelmed in crowded spaces.
Water stations are spread throughout, which you’ll appreciate on warm days—my dog always drinks more when she’s playing than I expect. There are also waste disposal stations positioned conveniently around the park, and they actually seem to be maintained regularly. The seating areas are genuinely useful, not just a token bench or two. You get real places to sit while your dog plays, which makes the difference between staying for twenty minutes and actually spending an hour there.
The park welcomes all breeds and sizes, and the regulars seem to include everything from tiny senior dogs who just like watching from the sidelines to high-energy young labs. You’ll see some dogs that are clearly social and looking for play buddies, while others do their own thing in different sections. That flexibility is helpful when you’re figuring out where your dog fits on any given day.
The facilities are well-maintained, and the grass stays in decent shape even with heavy use. If you’re heading over, it’s worth checking on any seasonal changes or upcoming maintenance work beforehand, since those can affect what parts of the park are available on your visit day.
