The main house at Dennen’s Victorian Farmhouse is genuinely Victorian—all gables and wraparound porch—but the real appeal for traveling with a dog is the cottage and cabin options on the ten-acre property overlooking the Mendocino coast. You’re far enough back from Highway 1 to have quiet, and close enough to Little River that you can walk down to the coastal bluffs in fifteen minutes. The gardens are mature and rambling, the kind of place where you and your dog can actually move around without feeling confined to a tiny room.
Dogs stay in the cottages and cabin without extra fees, and there are no weight restrictions. Your dog has access to the grounds, though the owners ask that you keep them under control around the gardens and livestock (chickens and sheep graze the property). The Victorian house itself is reserved for guests without dogs, but the guest cottages have their own character—wood stoves, vintage furnishings, some with kitchenettes. You won’t find Wi-Fi or cell service in all units, which is either a feature or a drawback depending on your philosophy.
The setting works well for a dog who enjoys ground-level access and space to move. The coastal bluffs near Little River offer informal trails and ocean views; Caspar Headlands State Natural Reserve, about three miles south, has wider trails where dogs can roam on-leash. The property itself sits on a quiet stretch of 1 with farm roads and minimal traffic. Breakfast isn’t included, but Little River has a few small markets and cafes a short drive away, and Fort Bragg’s restaurants and shops are ten miles north. Summer fog rolls in regularly, so bring layers even when the forecast says sun. Stays have a two-night minimum during peak season.
