Lu Ann Marino and Elizabeth Randall opened Dogs Abound after years of working together at a canine care facility in Orange County. The two discovered they clicked immediately—both shared a deep commitment to dog care, and after working in sync for several years, they decided to launch their own place in North San Diego County, the area where they were both raised and still live today.

What sets Dogs Abound apart is the philosophy behind it. Lu and Elizabeth saw room for improvement in how boarding facilities operated. They wanted to create an environment where dogs would actually thrive, not just pass time in a kennel. Their approach centers on exercise, structure, socialization, and enrichment—the things they believe transform dogs into well-behaved members of their households and the broader community.

The two founders understand that when dogs get proper activity and mental stimulation during their stay, they return home calmer and more balanced. This benefits not just the dogs themselves but their owners too. A dog that’s been properly exercised and socialized comes back less anxious and better adjusted, which makes life easier for everyone.

Located in San Marcos, the facility reflects their hands-on approach. This isn’t a place where dogs sit in runs all day. Lu and Elizabeth are actively involved in daily operations, which means they’re personally invested in how each dog experiences their time there. They know the individual personalities and needs of the dogs coming through, and they structure each day accordingly.

If you’re looking for boarding in North County San Diego where someone actually understands dog behavior and won’t just warehouse your dog while you’re away, Dogs Abound operates with a completely different mindset. It’s worth calling to discuss what they offer and how they structure their days.
