Dusty Rhodes Dog Park

Dusty Rhodes Dog Park

Dusty Rhodes Dog Park

2469 Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, San Diego, California 92107

The park sits right on the edge of a residential neighborhood in Ocean Beach, with views of the Pacific beyond the bluff line and enough wind to keep things cool even on hot afternoons. The main field is fenced and spacious, with decomposed granite and patches of grass that drain well after rain—your dog won’t come out caked in mud. A separate enclosure for small dogs sits at one end, giving pint-sized pups their own territory without the chaos of the full-size play area.

Dogs are off-leash throughout both sections, and there are no breed restrictions or size caps for the main field. Water stations are scattered around the park, which matters because the Ocean Beach location means sun exposure and salt air can dehydrate dogs faster than inland parks. Shade comes mainly from the few mature trees dotting the grounds and some supplemental structures, though afternoon shadows shift noticeably. The park operates during daylight hours, so early morning and late afternoon visits in summer give you the most relief from direct sun.

Most dog owners show up between 4 and 6 p.m. on weekdays once work lets out, making that window crowded and loud. Mornings tend to be quieter, especially weekdays. The park’s proximity to Sunset Cliffs Boulevard means there’s street parking along the boulevard itself or in nearby residential streets—never easy in Ocean Beach, but the area has turnover. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is just across the street if you want to combine the dog park visit with a cliff-top walk on an actual trail, though dogs must stay leashed there. The terrain at the dog park is mostly flat and easy on joints, though the decomposed granite surface gets hard-packed in high-traffic spots.
