Earl Warren Park

4660 Crow Canyon, Castro Valley, California 94552

(510) 881-6700

Earl Warren Park in Castro Valley sits right in the middle of everything—close enough to I-580 that you can hear the traffic, but once you’re inside, it feels removed from all that. The park is genuinely popular with local dog clubs, who regularly hold shows and meetings here, so you’ll often spot people actively training or socializing their dogs rather than just walking them.

The setup is practical. There are picnic tables and barbecues scattered throughout, a play area for kids, plenty of parking, and restrooms that are actually maintained. If you’re bringing your dog, you’ll find a lot of open lawn space where they can move around freely. The park has actual trails winding through it too—not just open field, but pathways with some landscaping that make for decent walks.

I’d describe it as a working park rather than a scenic one. The grass is kept up, the trees provide some shade during hot days, and there’s enough space that you don’t feel crowded even when other people are there. Dogs of different sizes do fine here. You can do a quick 20-minute loop if that’s all you have, or you can spend a couple hours if you pack a lunch and want to settle in.

The community aspect is real. Because the dog clubs use it regularly, there’s a decent chance you’ll run into people who are into dogs. It’s not a destination park where you’re driving an hour to get there, but if you’re in Castro Valley, it’s the kind of place where you can reliably have a straightforward time with your dog. The combination of open areas, some shade, and trails means most dogs will find something they like about it. Just note that it gets real sun in the summer, so early morning or late afternoon visits are probably more comfortable for your dog than midday.
