Elings Meadow sits on the bluffs above Santa Barbara with a genuine view—you can see the Pacific from parts of the property, and the wind comes straight off the ocean. It’s the kind of place where dogs genuinely tire themselves out because they run harder when they’re happy. The park sprawls across several acres of mostly open grassland with decomposed granite patches, so even after rain the footing stays reasonable.
The off-leash area is divided into separate sections: a larger field for dogs over 25 pounds and a smaller, fenced area for dogs under 25 pounds. Both sections are fully fenced, which matters if your dog has any wanderlust. There’s no entry fee to use the dog park, and the facility opens at sunrise. Dogs need to be current on vaccinations (bring proof on your first visit). Water bowls are available at the park, though bringing your own water bottle is smart given the exposed terrain and steady coastal breeze.
The main parking lot sits near Las Positas Road; from there it’s a short walk to the dog areas. The larger off-leash zone is the primary feature, with good sightlines across the grass so you can spot dogs and their owners from a distance. Peak times cluster around early mornings (7–9 a.m.) and late afternoons (4–6 p.m.), typical for a popular Santa Barbara spot. The park closes at sunset. Shade is minimal—a few scattered trees but nothing substantial—so summer visits mean either arriving early or waiting for late afternoon when the sun angles lower. The bluff location means wind is constant, which dogs either love or find distracting. The property also includes hiking trails and picnic areas beyond the dog park itself, making it easy to combine a dog run with a longer outing. The terrain is generally flat to gently rolling in the main dog areas, suitable for most fitness levels.
