Ellis Dog Park sprawls across several acres of open space in the foothills east of Tracy, with good tree cover along the perimeter and enough room that you won’t feel crowded even on weekends. The main field is mostly grass with some packed dirt, and the layout gives you clear sightlines from most angles, which matters when your dog’s off-leash and you need to keep track of what’s happening.
The park is fully fenced and divided into separate areas for large and small dogs, so smaller dogs have their own space without getting bowled over by bigger animals. There’s a water station for dogs, which is essential on the hot inland days when temperatures climb into the 90s and beyond. Shade is scattered but present thanks to mature oaks and cottonwoods; mornings and late afternoons are more comfortable than midday visits. The park is open from dawn to dusk, though mornings before 10 a.m. and evenings after 5 p.m. tend to be less busy if your dog prefers a quieter environment.
Getting there means driving out Corral Hollow Road into the rural parts of Tracy, with limited other amenities immediately nearby, so plan accordingly and bring water for yourself. The terrain is relatively flat across the main play areas, making it accessible for dogs of varying ages and mobility. Summer heat is the real factor here—this location bakes when it’s peak season, so early morning visits are genuinely the better choice, not just an option. There are no restrooms at the park itself, so factor in the drive time if you need facilities.
